According to this morning's Baltimore Sun, today will probably see the implosion of blast furnace "L" of the former Bethlehem Steel 'Sparrows Point' works, one of the largest furnaces in the USA.
Say goodbye.
Ironically, global iron ore prices have plummeted in recent months. Sparrows Point was built as a "tidewater" steel mill specifically to take advantage of cheap foreign ore brought by oceangoing ship. The original ore source was... wait for it!... CUBA.
Wouldn't it be curious if the interior steel mills locked to domestic iron ore (brought by lake boat) now go tits up?
BTW, exact plans for the "redevelopment" of this valuable waterfront land have not been announced, but there is talk that FudUx may open a DISTRIBUTION CENTER. Can you believe their good luck? Hmmm, what do you suppose their top pay rate is? And how much tax money do you suppose will go to environmental cleanup of the site so the private developers can profit? Ah, America.

Personally I'd have to say the slow demise of Sparrows Point started after WWII, when management geniuses decided to build the world's largest open hearths. Fascinating things (a friend worked on the cranes), but an idiotic decision. Every other country knew BOFs were the future, but no, Bethlehem knew better.
That kind of corporate attitude has been at least as damaging to American industry as the political nitwits who have "led" our country for several decades now.
IMHO, naturally :)

There totally destroying this country, dismantling whats left of our raw industries piece by piece by piece. it's one of those things where 25 years ago people like Mark Koernke of the patriot communities all around america have told you so. The american militia's They told you so. vote with your wallet by more ammo. the next round of gov usurpation the way i see will the the clean up of whats left of the middle class, and an all out assult with more anti gun legislation when they introduce more 'false terror' campaigns.
