Thank you, and keep it cheesy.) :)
Yes, folks,
Renard_V actually let me desecrate one of his original tunes...

Basically I took everything that was fresh and innovative about his track, and threw it right out with the bathwater. Even though most of my version is at the same tempo (a bracing 185 BPM), I did everything I could to make my version sound nothing like his. Well, that's not quite true. I did actually use a small sample of his track with a pattern gate laid over the top, the closest thing to modern production you're going to hear. All the vocals are processed with nothing but old-fashioned verb and compression; for the one moment where something extra was needed, I just held my nose. Seriously.
And, as usual, I really was trying to do a good production in my allotted 4 hour time span. Imagine what it would sound like if I were trying to do a half-assed job. :)
Thanks, Renard. Now it's your turn to mangle one of my pieces. :D

Funny - I actually was alive during the majority of the '60's (apparently I watched the Beatles on Ed Sullivan with my sister, but I was only eight months old at the time) and I never heard anything like this. Then again my parents fed me a steady diet of country AM radio, so that gave me something to initially rebel against. There is some novelty aspect to all of this... maybe there's a bit of the spirit of "Mahna Mahna" here...?
It could be deader; it's asymmetrical and cluttered but that only goes so far. Things like clarinet, which should ideally be miked a few feet over my head, are way difficult in a room that's only seven feet high; it's maddening to try to find any kind of a sweet spot. Maybe I should try lying on my back... seriously!
