We could have handled the 2 TPLOs if that were the only thing wrong with her. From birth she was born with an autoimmune condition called Symetic Lupoid Onchodystrophy which causes her body to reject pats of her skin (like her nails will fall off leaving the quips exposed) and erode her bones. Her hips and knees were shot. The vet believed that she had also caused herself spinal neurological damage when she fell because she couldn't go to the bathroom for the last 3 days. It was all too much to bear. She would have gone from one operation to the next for years. It was fair. It isn't fair to anyone - especially her. :(
It's not really all that we could have done, but it is an end to pain that would have extended into long periods of convalescence and many instances of going under the knife with no guarantee that she would recover. If she were healthy, we would have done it in a second. However the autoimmune disease that ravaged her eroded her life faster than she could heal. Survival is not enough without quality of life. :(
Oh man...I hadn't checked FA in a few days and I was really hoping to hear good news...my heart absolutely sank when I saw this. Words cannot convey how sorry I am for you loss. Q-Tip was an amazing and sweet dog.
That said, if you'd still like help setting up a fundraising campaign for a Q-Tip tribute fund, just say the word. I can send you all the pertinent info and show you what Rayce and I did to help defray the mountain of veterinary debt we racked up. I for one would really like to contribute, and I do not think I am the only one. That fact that you did everything you could to save her really shows your love and compassion, and I know your friends would jump at the chance to help ease that part of the burden.
