It's a piece I wrote while feeling rather... ephemeral and a bit depressed. I think it's a working piece none-the-less though.

Death's Mask
My eyes close as night dawns upon
Lips compress in grieving pain
But my ears hear not the living strum
As screams of my dirge fall like rain
My life, not yet enough to pass
Falls to the wind, deeds as smoke
And if nothing I do can this life last
Let all I've done, with me, die and corrode
And I, the face of unmasked Death
Bid silent the words you spoke with ease
And close the lungs for living song
But still I am not appeased
I've cut off your ears, laid rest your eyes
Molded your chin for my own use
Taken your high cheeks without a cry
But still I am not amused
For your life and memories
Cannot, as gems, be wrought away
And though in your face death does ease
Your deeds in life will forever stay.
