These things are hella intensive to make, but really fun, too. I thought more folks might be interested in the breakdown of how I've been putting mine together, so I snapped pics throughout the process while I worked on this one for
perdikitti today.
There's no right or wrong way to make these. This is just what I've found works for me. If anybody else wants to take a crack at it, go right ahead! I highly recommend using Rendr paper if you want to make your badges double sided. While it's not necessary, it's really neat if the badge continues if it flips over. It does make things more complicated, but the result is very nice if you're willing to put in the extra effort.
I Forgot to take detailed pics of lacing the holes. This is a handy guide you can use to get you started (semi NSFW). Once you've tried one, it gets easier. I punch two holes near the base of the tail to run the cord through the crotch from front to back, and up to the neck, and then affix the tail's base with a piece of clear packing tape. The cord will keep it from falling off even if the tape dries out. If you're using nylon cord like I am, singe the ends with a match or lighter to prevent them from unraveling on you.
