with an outfit like that i would have bet a sizable sum that your town was northern italian sicne it's amazingly reminiscent of venetian clothing styles.

Pretty accurate, except for some things witch I can't find the right word for because of Google and myself :P
The age is very long ago, almost even unknown, probably almost as long as the entire Christian time, it is form the time to fast (not the speed but about food & drinks) This includes almost everything. Including the XXX. part This part would takes 40 days without any luxury food and that adult part. But it develops during the age (like almost everything), and only the bit more of extreme of believing are still doing this. But it's more a an excuse to go completely nuts without questions asked. then to go for a 40 days fast
This is mostly the main thing about it as far as I know it.
