I only knew of silver furred chinchillas. A "lilac" fur is a delightfully welcomed surprise. Are there more variants, let's say, white, golden or chocolate? As I say, chinchilla's fur colors are not my strong point and I am more familiar with Persian cats varety of color. Thanks a lot for this valuable information.
Yes, there are plenty of colors, including some sables, pointed (as with in some Persians), and even some are marked, which is called "mosaic".
Apparently the color is called "Violet" not "Lilac" sometimes. I've always called it lilac.
