What program did you use? Do the little dots of color help speed things up somehow? I see those here and there in people's art but I'm not sure how they get used.

I use Opencanvas. It's an awesome program :D And it has online capabilities.
The blending takes a bit of getting used too though.

The dots of colour are reference. You use the darkest one and colour everything, then add the next-up one for the medium parts, the next up for lighter, and so on... Basically it just keeps the colours the same throughout. Since I, and a lot of others, blend them, if I needed to reapply the colours it could be hard without. So I guess it speeds thigns up slightly, but more so it just makes it easier.

Ok I get it, so it's basically like making color swatches in something like photoshop, only it's right in the picture instead of off to one side on a toolbar.

I've only tried opencanvas a couple of times. I kinda suck too much to actually draw with anyone else. I should try this in PSP next time though.

Ha ha, no no, I meant Paint Shop Pro. It's an older digital painting program made by Jasc, before they were bought out by Corel. It's not very well known, but it was cheap and pretty functional.
