February is 'Black History Month'. He's making a sarcastic comment about how every race should get a history month because otherwise African Americans might feel too special for all the years they spent as slaves and second class citizens.
... I live in Kentucky. I hear that one a lot.

I can see how that would be annoying as sarcasm, but does that make me less special if I don't have a history month? Should I assume wanting to feel equal to another group is a racist action and that I should accept that by the end of the day I'm less valuable as a person based on my ethnicity?
Sorry, I just love playing devil's advocate. :D

So wait, all American holidays are 'White' holidays?
Groundhog Day, April Fools' Day, Earth Day, Arbor Day, May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, Children's Day, Flag Day, Helen Keller Day, Father's Day, Women's Equality Day, Grandparents' Day, Patriot Day, Constitution/Citizenship Day, Lief Erikson Day, Election Day, Black Friday, Pearl Harbor Day, and New Years' Eve are holidays where we celebrate the history and accomplishments of one race? Seems to me anyone from any walk of life can...
... watch a Groundhog see it's shadow, play pranks on their friends, care for the Earth, love trees, love May, love their mama, care for children, love their country, respect their daddy, respect women's rights, honor their grandparents, love their country (again), love their country (yet a third time), wear a viking helmet and bother Squidward, become President, buy stuff and trample people in a mall, celebrate one of the most tragic events in American history, and live to see a new year.
Now, I'd normally give you Saint Patrick's Day, but I'm not sure that's celebrating Irish accomplishments anymore than Oktoberfest celebrates the accomplishments of Germany. German-American Day maybe, but that depends on if it's focused on people of Germanic decent or if it's more about having lived in Germany and moved to America.
And that's not even counting religious holidays (which I assume you can be any religion you like despite where you came from).
If I'm forgetting something feel free to tell me, because honestly I like new information. :D

Miss the point of Devil's Advocate much? Not saying there should be a white history month either.
(Frustrating? Yes, but that's why it's fun!)
Simply saying that I think we're too quick to put labels on people for things, and it makes us less willing as a society to communicate and grow. If we wish to push past racism and such, we must be less willing to use the label and reserve it for only cases where there can be no question, know what I'm saying?
We cannot be happy if we keep looking for reasons to be mad.

OK so I thought I was making myself pretty clear that I didn't want discussion to peter out any more but since you get some kind of boner for devils advocate I will say this playing devils advocate doesn't make you some kind of genius that has solved all the worlds problems it makes you an ass
I'm not replying any further

No, it doesn't make me a genius, and I've no illusions of being one. I maybe an ass, but that doesn't mean I lack in common sense; if we are too willing to throw negative labels around, how can we ever expect peace? It's like shooting at someone and telling them to drop their weapon.
If you want equality, everyone has to be treated equally, simple as that. Having said that, I don't want a white history month because I agree with Morgan Freeman's ideas on it: http://cdn.iwastesomuchtime.com/Feb.....sWiseWords.jpg However, any race wanted a history month white, asian or hispanic, I can't see how that is racist.
Words of wisdom if ever I saw them. Thing is, I'm not saying there should or shouldn't be any form of history month; the way things are now (holiday-wise) doesn't bother me. What I'm trying to say is that we throw around some heavy labels with very little provocation. How can we expect peace if we're always thinking up new reasons to hate each other?
I completely agree for two reasons. One is that there is a danger that throwing around these labels incorrectly will accomplish nothing but closing down debate, and debate is very important to democracy. And two is that calling someone a name like racist for incorrect reasons I find an insult to the victims of genuine racism, since it belittles the word.
That is stupid, "white holidays?" I dont think I celebrate a holiday that another race could not or does not celebrate. I even visit my family on MLKJ day every year, and at work everyone acts weird that I take the time off. Why is that a white person cannot celebrate a great man that did a lot for our nation and human rights in general. Sorry but sometimes I am dumbfounded by how people act like every white person is out to get them. Its just as racist to assume white people get "all the other holidays", or get everything for free or something.
You are trying to have an earnest conversation with people who derive a great sense of personal dignity by identifying with oppression they never experienced and proving it by carrying a chip on their shoulders. This is folly, as these issues are not up for debate to them and there is only one polite viewpoint. Don't argue with people who prioritize feels before facts.
I hear it a small amount here in socal, but I've always taken it as 'why are african americans treated extra special? We don't have a prominent Hispanic Heritage month, an Asian culture month, An Irish Respect month, or a Native American Observance Month." I mean They did have Slavery to themselves, but at the same time Native americans had the trail of tears and extermination, the chinese in the 1800s were nigh but slaves and still suffered segregation, the irish were heavily harrassed and hispanics have some of the worst images currently; and all but the irish suffered from discrimination before the civil rights acts.
It shouldn't really be a 'black history' month in that it pretty much lets one demographic co-opt an entire history of racism as the focus, in the same way that they're basically the minority that people turn to when wanting to apply diversity with minimal effort causing other minority demographics to be forgotten. Clearly "Black History Month" should be "Civil Rights and Liberties Observation" month.

I'm not gay, but if David Tennant had a twin sister, I'd marry her.
