You know, I don't know about you; but I, for one, am thankful that the North American media seems to have its priorities straight, and that it fully understands just how important the the whole controversy about the New England Patriots' under-inflated balls really is.
...Of course, I might also have said that last statement with just a wee hint of sarcasm.

As this year's super bowl party begins to gather downstairs, I can hear the ant-patriot talks already.
Don't get me wrong, I think that we should be concerned about the ball scandal. It's not something we can turn a blind eye to. But at the same time, we need to keep our priorities in line. Especially when it comes to the recent upsets in Eastern powers and the growing threats against our very livelihood.
And I think it should compliment you that I laughed very loudly when I read the lines "'cause we're interviewing the Kardashians./We need to get their opinion,/on those under-inflated balls!"
This also reminds me of a photo I saw probably a year ago. It had a frame of the NBC broadcast the day of the fall of the Berlin Wall next to the Inside Edition lady saying' "Next, Justin Beiber's Tweeting Sensation, and Red Carpet No-Nos"!

This is a big part of why I don't watch much TV, and especially the 24/7 "news" cycle anymore. About six or seven years ago I realized that it's all just propaganda and a show to dumb everyone down and distract them. On the other hand, the statement that you make here also shows how they've made themselves irrelevant. A lot of people seem to be turning the bullshit off, since they recognize it as such, but it never ceases to amaze me how many other people there are who still call it "news" and follow it like it represents some shining example of truth.
The problem is that too many people are lazy, complacent, and want to be told what to think instead of thinking on their own, seeking information, researching facts, and coming to their own conclusions about things. This sets a very dangerous precedent, because it's exactly the sort of thing that breeds an easily controlled and subservient population. It was said long ago that America would never be conquered from without, but that it could only be destroyed from within. I think this can be said of just about any country in the Western world, because they are all experiencing the same patterns. The mass media has played a large role in that.
Good commentary. I especially liked the bit about the UN. XD

I gotta say, though.... I have really mixed feelings about this. because on the one hand, I feel that talking about one problem or acting on that problem does not mean that other problems are unimportant or that you aren't doing something about those other problems too. I think that to say that because something is less important than another something then you shouldn't worry about it is fucking stupid. we should be able to care about lots of problems at the same time, regardless of where on the importance hierarchy they fall (if they must be thought about hierarchically at all). but on the other hand, I also acknowledge that the media doesn't cover those others things much at all. that the media treats these very important situations in the world very small and temporary (and completely ignores or obfuscates many others). so, it's difficult for me to express my opinion on the content, because it isn't as simple as agreeing or disagreeing.
I will say that I absolutely LOVED the rhyming pattern, the meter, the theme, and the way you made every part of the poem a piece of art at multiple levels at once. the dirty laundry reference was very obvious in such a great way. :)

Thanks,
And trust me, I wasn't saying that the 'less important' problems should be ignored. I'm just saying that the media has always seemed to have their priorities seriously messed up. All too often, the western media really is the very definition of the most cynical exercise in panem et circenses ever conceived.

aye, you can say that again. every media source exhibits some bias or another. even watching Fox, CNN, and MSNBC all together doesn't give you a whole story. throw in RT News and Al Jazeera you might get a bigger picture. to top it off, perhaps add Revolution News, The Guardian, and some local college newspapers (like The Daily Alligator where I'm from). you still won't get the full picture, but you'll see that you have been missing alot.
so, yeah. you're definitely right about that.
