Here is a picture of two ape characters, Fiera (the female chimp) is showing Eli (the orangutan) the basics of measuring in order to make a more accurate drawing. Eli on the other hand knows about the process of drawing.
Lately I have been feeling under the weather, thus it is difficult to draw. when that happens I normally go back to the basics, or what helps me get inspired or feel good. In this case Planet of the apes, both the original and the remake (along with some light comedy from youtube.com). So yeah this picture is a little mix of the old and new. *smirk* It has been a long time since I drew a picture of General Thade along with my original female chimp Sita.

You know, I never did get the "They're too much like humans" argument about why there aren't as many ape artist in anthro. Anybody that knows how to draw a human knows, drawing an ape's face is no were near similar as drawing a humans. THeir /muzzle/nose area alone causes for a lot of reworking.
I like the POTA outfits though. Seems fitting.

The argument is not so much on ape's appearence it is mostly on their mannerisim and how they interact with one another compair to the other animals in the wild.
At the library I found the most disturbing book called "Eating Apes" and yes, it was about the bush meat industry and how apes, Gorillas, and chimpanzees are hunted down for trade but also for their meat. The worse thing about that book was that it had some very graphic pictures to the point that it does make you sick. (honestly a dead infant gorilla inside a blood soaked suitcase is enough to make anyone stomach turn)
yeah, their muzzle does take practice to get it right. For the orangutan I am still trying to figure out the right formula to get their flanged face right.
