Uhh, I don't know if there is a strict pattern~ I just went with what I saw in layers. Up in the sky, I put the color of the leaves down first, then layered up some leaves to the foreground, and then painted the trunk and branches, and finally some more leaves over that, just working my way from the background to the foreground--
