I made this helm as a test piece out of 2mm thick mild steel to get a feel for the pattern but I modified the historical design for on foot combat. I learned a lot while constructing this that I will apply to future projects. The fabric loop around the crown of the helm (called a torse) is hand sewn out of linen fabric and stuffed with animal hair, which actually doesn't smell as bad as you'd think.
