Even Harrell isn't 100% sure about that. He's a griffin's griffin and killing unrelated chicks by his ex-mate is the normal griffin thing to do. What stops him is that he's a civilized griffin and that's a very uncivilized thing to do. That veneer of civilization, however, crumbles more and more as the story goes on. Harrell is right to doubt himself.

Vaniss isn't taking any chances.

I actually feel sad that I didn't include Vaniss' other two chicks in the novel. Mostly, I concentrate on the Vaniss->Aera/Cerrick->Tirriss relationships.

Harrell is a war veteran with PTSD. He's committed terrible atrocities, witnessed equally terrible atrocities, and spent way too long a time in a POW camp run by Josef Mengele. He's got the Thousand Mile Stare and he left the Northern Continent a thoroughly broken bird.

Don't think any offer of comfort would help him at that stage.

yeah, the paralel to concentration camps also came to my mind, I just think this was still a tad more horrible considering they were using their babies to make bio weapons to commit genocide.
I still imagine what the public and goverment would do to Russel when they would have found out and what happened afterwards of the novelle. after all this was a first contact scenario with a alien species, even multiple ones and Russel did the most horrible thing imaginable.

Sadly, I doubt much would have been done. Russell's an ueber-wealthy CEO. The rich tend to get away with a LOT of things in the U.S... and that includes murder.

Deverall would have not gotten away so cleanly. He was a walking war crime and his fate at Winter's talons was completely appropriate.

However, Harrell dragged Russell back to Griffin!Earth, so he gets to spend his days as a lab animal instead. Griffin justice is a lot rougher than American justice.

Right now, I am still waiting on my test readers to give me feedback, and for the cover illustration to be completed. Once I've done final editing, I will be publishing it as an ebook.

yeah, but I think Russel wouldn´t have gotten away with it. Practically destroying your chance of peacefull exchange with an alien civilisation, I think if not by the law, the public would crucify him. but I think its very likeley the goverment would have given the Grivvin Goverment Russel as compensation and punished everyone involved really hard to keep the relationship with the Griffins Intact. I think people kinda ignord a bot how big of a deal this forst contct was and how horrible Russel fucked up. for the sake of humanity and future cooperation, I think he and the others would have gotten his punishment, which would probably mean exchange to the griffin, so that they could deal with it.
I´m just sad, this ending was really really sad, we could have learned so much of eache other and ansered one of the most existentistial questions of humanity.
I am hoping that one day, whe humanity has grown up, we will habe the chance to be friends once more.

Well, remember this. The griffins were not aliens. They were Earthlings. Their presence would have been a momentous, but not in proving there are aliens, but that there are *parallel universes* and that it is possible, through greenie gates, to access them.

It's certainly possible, as a story seed, to write that the griffins deliberately open a gate back to the human world to try and negotiate a treaty with the "monsters". Such a thing would be very tense, as humanity does not speak with one voice. It almost is what I did for my novel, but I decided to confine it entirely to griffin!Earth and concentrate on the three core characters.

the existance and acessability of paralel universis is in my view even more fantastic.
I would just like to know us peacefully exisitng and learning from eache other. I am very Xenophile and curious. I think its my expectation from Star Trek speaking.
I think the diplomacy between Humans and Griffins has much potential for the future.
