TBH I was in detention every week because the principal was convinced I'd done /something/ to get expelled from my previous school (actually the school had pinned the injuries of another student on me "fighting" her when in fact she had been injured due to their negligence) and therefore every case of theft, vandalism or fighting was somehow my fault. And I wasn't the only one, us "usual suspects" were in detention all the time, because it was easier to punish us for doing nothing than to do the detective work to figure out who actually ripped down the stalls in the bathroom, or painted "FUCK" in spraypaint on the side of the school, or whatever.
The only one I wish I could have taken credit for, was that this guy took a bunch of ketchup packets from the lunch room, poked small holes in them, and put them under the toilet seat, so if you sat down on the seat, your ass got coated in ketchup. That was one I wish I'd come up with.

On the bright side, victories such as hers are ultimately the more enduring ones. She's learned she can fight back against an oppressor and give him pause. That can make a big difference in her self-confidence and have positive repercussions for her future. All the school can do now is make an attempt at damage control.
Because schools totally haven't always been like that to even worse degrees then they are now? BACK IN MY DAY you didn't get excused for going home and crying to mommy about the kid at school bullying, she just pointed you to your dad and let him awkwardly try to teach you how to throw a punch and then pretended like it's not her fault when you inevitably got the crap kicked out of you. That's REAL parenting.
