Couch Kitties: Radio Shocked!
http://www.forbes.com/sites/antoine.....or-bankruptcy/
RadioShack, after years of puzzling bottom-seeking stock investors on how it managed to stay in business, filed for bankruptcy on Thursday evening. The retailer, best known to consumers in recent years as a trusty seller of easy to lose cords, chargers and tech accessories, also announced a deal to sell between 1,500 and 2,400 stores to a consortium including Standard General and Sprint while in restructuring.
It seems this will inconvenience Sylvia Siamese and Norma Bates Kitteh for some obscure reason...

sharra. Tali and the kittehs © me. Tip of the top hat to
eocostello and
walt46 for inspiring this week's strip.

(NB: My local Radio Shack, a franchise store, is determinedly staying open, and already is stocking third-party components, so I'll be fine on that front.)

town where i live now, radio snack is all we've got for components. not that its anything i buy every day, but for a city this size, there's not a lot of places that sell things that are useful to me. if they actually close, it'll be one less. one more empty storefront in a cluster of strip malls with nearly half their spaces empty as it is.
the article mentions changing buying habits. does that mean everyone is buying everything on line, even when there's a storefront two blocks down the street from them?
i want to go to a store where i can fondle stuff before i buy it, and my internet to be a free public library, not a shopping mall. i totally don't get what's with what people seem to want and don't want and make any sense of why.

Yeah. I'm one of the lucky ones; all the local Shacks are franchises, and won't be closing; indeed, I just visited my local Shack yesterday:

There's a really good electronics supply store fairly close to me; they have a lot of very good, esoteric stuff(they even sell vacuum tubes), but for general stuff like wire, solder, and the clearly labeled odds and ends RS is much better. I'd likely find something at the specialty store, but things are incredibly disorganized, you better know -exactly- what you need, and expect to do a lot of digging to find it.
I used to find some awesome deals there. My IBM Model M keyboard was a find there; only $12 before they got wise and figured out they're worth around $75-150. Now, not so much.
