I didn't like it either. A friend of mine had this to say, and honestly, I couldn't have said it better myself:

"Her dialogue was a series of quips and clever one-liners and cliches, which completely obstructed me from getting into her character. She was like some aging hipster's wet dream - she listened to all the right bands, watched all the right movies, was so EDGY and PUNX and DIFFERENT and you could almost hear the screenplay writer, standing behind Juno like "these are MY beliefs! this is MY music! my gurl is SO HARDCORE" - like I don't know where you're getting off, Diablo Cody, but in Fandom we call chicks like this a "Mary Sue". Which is basically shorthand for "she's so cultivated and obviously an avatar for the author to live out her fantasy existence that I would like nothing more than to shove her off a cliff and watch that baby mama bounce all the way down."

I totally agree. She was just, too quirky to be real. The fact that she got pregnant felt REALLY out of character; She was a people-hating angsty teenager. Then again, I suppose that was what was supposed to be the plot. But I just hated how her character was like, really pressing "I AM ORIGINAL," when the character had already been done in Ghost World.. it just really irked me. I kept waiting for the movie to get cute and funny and it never did. :/

I actually thought it was a good movie. It's not often you find a movie that's up-to-date with current pop-culture, and not only that, doesn't have a cliche ending. Guess it depends on your age group I guess, but watching the movie and knowing nothing about it, and expecting it to be HORRID like everyone says, I was pleasantly surprised.

It definitely sucks if you're a guy.

LOL, my 18 year old son watched it and told me he liked it and thought it was good. Dare I even verify this claim by watching it myself?

IMO, it's real serious and story-like and goes in-depth with explaining how a girl around the age 16-18 feels about sex.
So...viewer beware, it gets moody. >.<

So like best load up on sedatives, curl up on the worn out sofa with a threadbare flannel blanket and drink cheap beer and snack on grilled Vienna sausages eh? Sounds like a lovely time.
