Nikkita is a female Tairen.

At birth, the egg shell remains attached to the baby Tairen, eventually becoming the pattern on the chest of the adult. No Tairen's pattern will be the same. The eggshell becomes more flexible over time, but remains a tough yet smooth protection across the chest. The tail is long and supple, with long sensitive hairs on the tip. The long tail helps for maneuverability in flight, and the sensitive hairs on the end of the tail and tips of the ears help a Tairen to feel minute changes in wind direction. A Tairen is also given at birth an earring bearing a stone that matches his or her eye color. Females are given silver metal with the stone, and males gold. This earring will always be placed in the left ear, closest to the heart. When a Tairen chooses his or her life partner, they will trade these earrings to each other, in order to carry a piece of their partner with them wherever they may go.
