- Who are those guys Ashio?
- They're pirates…

Backus is as surprised as I do.

- Pirates? During the day? What should we do now Ashio?
- We will have to outrun them before they catch us. Get on the deck, it will be shaky.

I turn the ship's cap and I hear bullets flying all over; the pirates are shooting at us. This isn't good. Low calibre bullets will do minor damage… until we get hit by a cannonball. The ship is all shaky and this will damage the hull.

Backus gets off the frame, runs on the deck to go downstairs to the cockpit. He's scared already? Anyway, my ship is smaller than the pirates' one. It should be able to outrun them if I increase the power of the engines. Come on, you can do it. I see the pirates' ship is getter closer on the side.

After a few minutes, Backus came back with a bag and a rifle in hand. I look at him and yell:

- Since when you had this with you?!
- You never asked if I had equipment with me.
- I thought you were unarmed.
- I was, my bag was somewhere else. In any cases, I got something that might be useful.

He opens up his bag to show its content. There are many metal bottles.

- Backus… is that what I'm thinking of?
- Yes.
- You had that many on the ship?
- Yes. Better make use of those against them.
- Be careful.
- I will.

Backus goes at the back of the ship and arm the rifle with one of those metal bottles. He tries to aim and the ship gets hit by another cannonball. The shake make Backus fall off board. Crap! I leave the commands and rush at the back of the ship. I can see Backus trying to keep his grip on the ship.

- Backus! You're okay?!
- I would like to say yes, but not. The shake made me fall over.
- I'll help you get up.
-I won't be able to climb up. I can't keep a good grip. Didn't knew this would be the end for me.

No no no no. Thinking… Yes! Focus…

- Okay Backus, I'll tell you exactly what you'll need to do. When I'll tell you to, you'll have to release your grip.
- You got to be kidding?!
- No, I'm not, you must trust me or the next cannon ball will be your end.

Backus look at me, at the ground far, far away and back at me and answers:

- Do it fast Ashio!
- Let it off!

Backus let himself fall in the air… and I make him levitate. He's quite surprised to fly into the air until I bring him back to the ship.

- W-what just happened?!
- I saved your life.
- Wouldn't expect you to…

The ship gets hit by another cannonball.

- We will talk about this later Backus, now be careful.
- I will.

I go back to the command panel. Even with the damage on the hull, the is still increasing in speed; this is good. Suddenly I hear an explosion. I look at the back of the ship. Pieces of the pirates' ship is on fire. I see Backus aiming at the pirates' ship again and shoot with his rifle to hear an explosion and see another part of the pirates' ship are catching fire. Soon, the fire spread up to the balloon.

- Great shooting Backus!
- Thanks! Look, they're changing their cap!
- We won this one, the engine is reaching the top speed.

We continue our travel, leaving behind the pirate ship that eventually crash into the forest.
