Oh, thanks so much. No I don't do it for a living, in fact my job is very different and not art related at all :(
I think it comes from the fact that well, everyone sucks at drawing before they are good. I was really not good at drawing people so I used to give them very extravagant clothing. Lots of frills, lace, buttons, folds etc (think CLAMP). the drawings still weren't great but it sure did draw the attention away from the ill proportioned body lol.
I love sketching because its so free and can be messy. I did it a lot so I got very used to creating clothing for characters.
