Rocko (on the left there) is an odd one about shedding. He almost seems to go out of his way to avoid doing it when anyone might see it (I personally have never actually seen him do it. For all I know he never does, and the rest of the world is involved in some conspiracy that involves putting snake skin in his tank every so often to create the illusion that he sheds).

Example: I tend to stay up late, and on one such occasion Rocko was about ready to start shedding (got the blue-ish eyes and everything), and was quite literally on the brink of starting. He's resting by his water dish (as he always does) at around 3 AM (can't remember what I was doing that particular night; I think I got stuck in some serious Silent Hill 2 binge). Just wrapped up there, dozing. I fall asleep for about an hour, then suddenly wake up (I believe the result of a Pyramid Head-related nightmare). I look over at his tank, and he's in the same spot, with his recently-shed skin on the other side of the tank.

I think he was waiting for me to doze off. Tricky little bugger.
