The year was 1995, and Toho had finally cemented a deal with TriStar to begin an American-made Godzilla movie franchise. There was now only one last thing left to do... make the final Japanese Godzilla movie, and bring the 1990's Series (aka: the Heisei Series) to a close.
But who to be the final opponent of the King of the Monsters? What creature could honestly be a fitting contender? Why, a monster created by the first, and only, man-made weapon shown capable of destroying Godzilla... the Oxygen Destroyer.
Dr. Serizawa, back in 1954, had long feared what his creation, the Oxygen Destroyer, could unleash upon the world. It troubled him so much that he was willing to die with the first, and only, use of his weapon. In a flurry of bubbles and waves, the monstrous beast Godzilla was almost virtually erased by Serizawa's creation... melting the tyrant king to bones, then dissolving even the bones themselves in a short amount of time.
But unbeknownst to anyone, probably not even Serizawa himself at the time, something had occurred that day. Almost 40 years later, that something made itself known to the world.
For such a destructive hellbeast, Destroyah started out quite small. Micro-organisms in the ocean, which had been mutated by the deployment of the Oxygen Destroyer. These things quickly evolved and grew over the 40+ year period, taking on various forms before finally settling on the final form shown above.
Godzilla, whose body was slowly dying from meltdown, met this creature amidst the glittering city of Tokyo, but not before the hellish mutation managed to make it personal... he seemingly killed Godzilla's adopted son, Junior, who had managed to defeat it in an earlier battle, whilst donning an earlier form.
So not only was this a battle to the death, it was now intentsely personal.
Destroyah seemed to be more than a match though for the dying Monster King, at times even overpowering him. But Godzilla would not allow himself to go down, at least not before taking Destroyah down with him. As his body grew hotter, and as his energy reached a melting point, (even melting Godzilla's spinal plates) Godzilla unleashed his full power upon the hellish mutation, in a huge chain of explosions that rocked the surrounding area.
Defeated, Destroyah tried to take to the skies, to flee from the punishment being doled out upon it by an angered Godzilla, and the Big G seemed unable to do anything at that point, his body was in no shape to try and give chase. Luckily the JSDF was there, and using freezing weapons, originally designed to try and control Godzilla's meltdown... they instead unleashed their power upon Destroyah, managing to freeze the monster in mid-air, and sending it plummeting to the ground below.
The beast was vanquished, followed soon by the monster, Godzilla, who had bested it in combat.
:D
