Eric breathed a large sigh. The last of his class had left for the year. Being a kindergarten teacher was exhausting work, and this year seemed to be the most exhausted he's ever felt. He loved his kids, but they seemed to get more and more energetic as the year went on.
This last day seemed to whiz by, a whirl ball of energy as his class played games and had fun: a tradition Eric did every year. It wore him out, and thankfully the class didn't completely tear the room apart. He tidied up, cleared off and tossed out various wrappers and cups, tying off a garbage bag, and settles it next to his briefcase, already packed and ready for his exit from the school for the summer.
He gazed at the whiteboard, where he had drawn a sun with his markers, stifling back a wave of profound sadness for his class, knowing that he wouldn't see their faces every day. He held back his tears, and took a large breath. He couldn't cry now, not after putting a brave face for the kids who hugged him goodbye.
-knock knock-
Eric flinched in shock, whipping around. He sighed and a smile was upon his face. In the doorway was a police officer. what he lacked in height he made up for in his large, powerful frame. His muscles made his uniform (which, by his own choice, was short sleeved and shorts) look nearly painted on. He took off his sunglasses and stuck them in one of his shirt pockets. He smiled warmly as he crossed the classroom, giving Eric a warm kiss on the lips.
"Long day, hun?" Officer Roman smirked.
"Heh, you could say that. Exhausting would be another word I'd use."
"Oh, and here I thought I was the only one who could do that"
Eric blushed, but chuckled, giving his boyfriend another kiss. "Well, in your very special way you do, hun."
Roman smiled, blushing back, stepping back a tad. "Perhaps tonight, I should do just that..."
"Perhaps?" Eric frowned just a bit. "You usually push me into the wall and have your way with me at this point, Roman....is there something wrong?"
"No" Roman said quickly. "....well...."Roman seemed a bit antsy, shifting around and blushing, his hand fumbling at his pocket.
"Roman?" Eric asked again. "What's the matter?"
Roman was silent for a while, before speaking up.
"Eric....I want to know...." Roman bit his lip. "Where...do you see....Where do you see us...in 5 years?"
"5 years?" Eric smiled nervously. "I don't understand..."
Roman took a slow long breath. "Eric....we've been going out for years now. We've even moved in together. We've shared our interests, our secrets, our fears.....But I want to know...if you'll still be with me in 5 years?"
Eric stood in silence. "Roman..." Eric looked into Roman's worried eyes. "You know I only have eyes for you, and my heart belongs to you...so why are you so nervous when you ask me..."
Roman took another slow breath, closing his eyes, and smiled. "Because I have another question for you...." He knelt down on one knee, taking off his hat and keeping it crooked in his arm. In his other hand held a box, flicked open, and a diamond ring glistened and shined. Eric couldn't hold back a gasp as he held onto his desk for support.
"Eric....you're the love of my life, my soul mate. ever since our first date, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. We may have had our ups and downs, and our share of fights...but I know that you're the only one for me." Roman's eyes glistened, welling up. "Eric Abernathy....will you marry me?"
