... needed some commissions a long time ago. I got a bunch, and turns out he did most of them but left two undone. I sorta lost track of 'em, but he didn't, and one day he came through and finished the work like a pro. :)
Here we have an homage to Dust: an Elysian Tail, a Steam game like a side-scroller flash kinda deal, but with a pretty cool story and good gameplay on both console and PC. I rarely finish video games these days, 'cause I'm so distracted and 'busy' (with work and social things), so I don't usually have time for such. And Dust was something I picked up, fell in love with, played for many hours, and ... then put it down for a good long while. I did finally finish it, though, and was very glad I did. Really enjoyable experience, and independently produced! Good job!
Also, Fidget the Nimbat became one of my favorite game characters ever. She just had a 'tude that I adored, and a look that was remniscent of a roo. Thus is why I chose Rooth'roo for this homage (plus Rooth'roo is about as spacey as Dust was in the game). Honestly, I'm a little surprised I haven't seen much in the way of fan art of this game. Figured it would catch on like wildfire in furry circles. Oh well!

I really enjoyed that game too, mostly for the beautifully animated main character and the painted backgrounds. It's seriously impressive that Dean Dodrill did the whole thing, aside from the story and voice work. Think I remember seeing some of his stuff on Yerf back in the day, even though he's never been directly involved in the fandom that I know of.
And it's hard to tell what pop culture furries are going to glom on to. I remember when Avatar was big, people were derisively saying "oh, the furries are gonna eat this up!" but outside of a handful of fan art and your tribute character Cinnamon I haven't seen much. Then a little indie game about rogue animatronics in an ersatz Chuck-E-Cheese's comes along and the fandom goes nuts over it. It's weird.

Yeah, I have no idea why I stopped. I was hooked like you describe, like one of those times I played a PS3 game non-stop 'til I finished (though that was just a 20-hr game ... Dust took me about 30, I think?).
But stop I did. And whatever stopped me distracted me long enough that I couldn't get back to it for quite a while. Weird.
But yeah, wasn't it grand? :)
