Meet Abby the Borzoi! I hope she sort of looks like her species, I tried to capture that Borzoi look. She's a fun, playful athlete that excels at physical activity and enjoys working with children. She's in college to become a teacher, while playing college basketball and softball.
And is quite the wine connoisseur.
Abby has a story, if you are interested: I've always loved Borzois, but it's because of a friend from work Abby came to be. He doesn't work at my grocery store, but we call him "The Wine Guy" since he works for another company to help HT and gives out samples. He's an older dude, found out he's the husband of one of my bosses. So I work at stations set up in the front of the store on Mondays making pizzas and Thursdays cutting prime rib dinners. So we hang out plenty. And we talk about dogs.
All the time.
When he told me he had a Borzoi, I was like omg! He was amazed I knew what one was. So, everytime I see him he updates me on Abby, shows me pictures and videos. of her being so pretty and racing around a baseball field in a bolt of energy (she's only about a year old). And one day he brought her to work to meet me!
I was so amazed seeing a Borzoi in person. They are just the most gorgeous elegant dogs! So long, pointy, fluffy and big all at once. They are so unique. And she is the sweetest dog ever, so that has influenced Abby's design.
And a little nod to John the "Wine Guy" on the shirt ;3
This could be better, but I wanted to finish something. I'm working on a lot of other things and just need to get them finished.

ps: I love fluffily sight hounds if y'all can't tell. I know I drew her from the same angle as that Mari pic I did earlier, but I'm trying to improve capturing that sighthound head shape and slope.

My only critique would be that the angle of the eye doesn't follow the slope of her muzzle but you still did a really good job, I hope you don't mind crits, if you do just tell me and I'll respect that. I like the lighter, warmer hues you used she is very distinct among your characters and whom you know I love! I love her hair and the wavy borzoi fur, I think you really captured her breed. I hope you draw her more, what a cute story!
Awwwww girl you are the best!! No I WANT critiques because those are the only way I can improve! I love all the kind comments I get, but crits are good too so i can make things better! I know they have small round eyes that are further on the sides of their faces, but I still just couldn't get that slope just right, had the same prob with the Mari face a few pics before this. Gonna have to practice that maybe you could sketch one out for me so I could see how you do it! Your art always helps me improve!
Dude I SO see what you mean now!! I sat there looking at pics of borzois, afghans, salukis and other sight hounds of that genre and it finally clicked. Thank you! I am going to practice because I want to draw better Maris and Abbys, and I am making up a Saluki character because I adore them so.
Nnnghhhh thank you beautiful lady ;; that means a ton to me coming from you! Who draws things so perfectly and flowing! I think I may adjust her colors, was watching videos of the real Abby playing today and realized she's all light tan except for her front two paws. But I may just adapt her to be more my character… either way, borzois are so beautiful and I'm so glad you like her. Honestly if it wasn't for me basing her off of a real dog she wouldn't be the way she is. I always go for funky hair colors and vibrant markings and would never dress one in pink and have blonde hair on a tan body. So this is kinda cool to get me to branch out to something different. Not to mention I sit around watching a 64 year old man's videos and photos of his dog on such a regular basis I made a character off of her, lol.
