He deliberately got Balto lost as he was trying to save Nome from an epidemic. It don't matter if you think he was a cool guy, that to me is unforgivable. Steel was more concerned about his ego and reputation than his job. Serve him right if the other dogs drove him out of town!
Excuse me, but in Steele's defense he did exactly what he thoughy was the right thing. Keep in mind he was trained to be an alpha dog and his job was to protect not only his pack and musher, but also the serums meant to save lives. He wasn't around for the whole movie to know that Balto was any good. As far as he knew Balto was an evil wolf dog that couldn't be trusted. Even if he talked the talked, how many Disney wolves have ever actually been moral? Steel did the right thing now trusting him, because traditionally doing so would have led to tragedy. Have you seen Into the Woods?
Also, even if they weren't just cartoons (since the movie was based on a true story), how could a wolf with big clunky paws be any good at leading a sled team in the Alaskan wilderness?
Of course in real life Balto wasn't a wolf at all. I would know, I've seen him in Cleveland museum of science.
PS, Steel is indeed cool. just look at him. Have you ever seen a cooler looking disney cartoon husky dog? So don't go telling people he's not cool. He's the coolest.

Balto was NOT the only good Disney wolf, surely you have seen Alpha and Omega. Also, Balto died a few years before the movie was filmed, so you could not "see" him.
