The Triply Old Television
Stayed at my parents house last night so I could drive my 92-year-old father to a Cardiologist appointment this morning.
The "guest" room had this television in it.
I call it triply old because:
1) It requires a digital to analog converter, which is sitting atop it.
2) No remote. The remote you see is for the converter. Every television had remotes by the time the analog television age ended.
3) Separate VHF and UHF knobs, complete with fine tuning knobs.
Posted for those furs that love old technology.

Not from the US here, but I have an equally old TV. Uses/needs a digital to analogue converter (the TV itself is mid to late 80s - !); it has no remote (dosen't even have a headphone socket) and a UHF tuning bank via knobs. No VHF (405) as that finished in the UK right at the start of '85 from memory.

I gotta say, I love to see things like this to see how far we've come.

Where I was, it depended on what day of the week it was. Some nights it would stay on until 1 or 2 am. I remember that Chiller Theater came on Fridays at 11:30 PM and the second feature would finish around 2AM.
I used to be allowed to watch only the first one.
You can tell how dated the original Poltergeist is because the channel went off the air late at night.

That reminds me of the TG&Y B&W 12 inch that I used in my dorm room in the early 80's. My mom kept it for 30+ years because it had a great tuner for picking up local stations when the cable quit working. I also had a Emerson 13 inch Color TV I used as a monitor for my C64 and 128.
