OMG OMG OMG!!!!! I just discovered Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed last week (a pal on Dogster pointed it out). And I get on here after being away from FA for weeks... and HERE HE IS AGAIN!!!
So now by the joy of chance, you get the full excited torrent of my newfound disease-- demented fangirl syndrome. I may have to renounce my nostalgia-induced loyalty to Ronin Warriors and declare the Ginga stories as my favorite anime of all time, even though GNG makes me cry like, seriously, every other damn episode so far. Weed has proven mildly more upbeat of a show. I've only seen about six episodes each though (my 'net connection loads YouTube vids slightly faster than an aged, arthritic slug), but I'm in love already. Weed is awesome. GB rox my sox. Smith-san is so badass I about squee'd to death during the whole first episode whenever he made an appearance.
If I could get my paws (pun intended) on the anime, and every single manga (including the one-volume Ginga Densetsu Riki that was done later as a prequel to the first series), and a plushie of either Gin or Weed, I would probably bankrupt myself and get them all, at once. I haven't decided who I like better, once I finish both series I guess I'll know... I'm leaning towards Weed because I don't really get why Gin never returned to Daisuke (probably gets explained later)... I cried my eyes out when he left him in episode 8... and I had missed out on episodes 2, 6, and 7 because they're not on YouTube but it's JUST THAT AWESOME. I do have one beef with Weed though. If at some point they don't mention what happened to Sasuke I'm gonna have a damnfit. Probably does in the manga, but the anime goes from episode one "oh yeah, I will go with you guys, I gotta find my old owner!" to episode two, "and so, Weed, GB, and Smith begin their journey" WHAT?!
Er, am I done? Yes, I guess I am. Sorry. I got really excited. I've never seen anyone else mention this, though it's been around since the 80's. I can't BELIEVE nobody told me about it sooner! Dogs! Angry Rampaging Bears! Dogs! A dude chopping his leg off! DOGS! It's like everything I ever needed from an anime. It even owns the Inu Baka manga. I'm so sad I didn't discover it like, the year it started. XD
oh um, er, if you hadn't noticed... I like dogs. and dog stories. and dogs fighting angry bears. and uh, dogs. Hope this post wasn't too long and insane for you. I'm just thrilled to discover other people (you know, the kind who DON'T hang out on Dogster all the time) like this show!
;)

:D :D
I was excited when I found it too!!
Someone sells the entire series on ebay from time to time, and a Weed plushie was up a bit ago, but he was too expensive for someone poor like me. He was about 80 dollars!
I am watching a new anime about dogs now, it's called "Massugu ni Ikou" and it's utterly adorable so far. Not like Weed at all. <=)

I also HIGHLY recommend "Arashi no Yoru Ni"
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc.....me.php?id=5905 That one is GREAT!
My favorite character in Weed is Jerome!

Thank you! Those both look totally awesome. I'll see if I can sweet talk my beau into getting them on Netflix, if they are available that way. If not, uh... internets! YAY!
Once I found out that GNG came first, I started watching through that one, so thus far I've only seen a few of the GDW series. But I really love Smith in both series, and now I also really love Cross.
Huzzah for doggies! :D
