No. They just called it that cause if the effect it had on kuro. It was actually called silver vein sake.

Hmm, I assume you mean Silver Vine. I have only seen the anime, and they only refer to it as catnip, never giving a real name. But for all intents and purposes, Silver Vine has the same effect on cats as catnip, it's just stronger.
An actual explanation in the anime would have been nice XD

They called it silver vine sake in the anime. Otherwise I wouldn't know of it.

I just went back and watched the episode, and you are right, they do say "Matatabi," which is the Japanese name for Silver Vine, when referring to the Sake, it was just translated as catnip in the subtitled translation :/

Well, after doing a bit of research, seems we are both technically right. Matatabi is both the name of Silver Vine, but also a word used for Catnip in Japanese XD
