Ohh, I see, the rounded boxes list the details of the beacons, especially their "callsign" in morse code. As far as I know you have somekind of special reciever which can make you listen into that signal and display you the direction you would be seen from the beacon. Those beacons operate just above the FM range, at least in Germany.
Thats pretty close. The lower one marked PUTNY is actually broadcasting down in the AM range, the others are in the high non-commercial FM range (your standard AM/FM radios don't even pick these up). The AM beacons are what we call non-directional in that they just broadcast a signal and we have an instrument that will just point at the beacon. The FM beacons are directional and broadcast in "radials" which are straight lines emanating in all directions from the beacon, we have instruments that will tell us what radial we are on or how far left or right we are from it. Additionally with the FM beacons many planes are equipped with distance measuring equipment which will tell us how far we are from it. Oh and the PZD VORTAC there is a VOR with a TACAN (TACtical Air Navigation) unit stuck to it which the military uses for... whatever they use it for :P
*Looked it up* The VFH "FM" ones as it turns out do broadcast their morse code ID on an AM carrier wave but have an FM referance signal and a second AM signal for the rotation. The straight AM ones just broadcast an AM signal down in the kHz range, the device is fairly simple, it does automatically what a guy used to do with a set of earphones and a loop antenna.
