Vargas: Eat your heart out Fruit ninja! Hehe!
Vargas is a practitioner of capoeira, an African martial art/ ritual dance that is very popular in Brasil, his home country. The art was brought to the country by the African slaves the Portuguese brought to work the land, and was one of the few remnants of their home lands culture they managed to keep hidden from their masters. Historians see the art form as one of the elements that helped the escaped slaves maintain moral and a sense of identity in the midst of the slavers constant attempts to break them. Today, the art is a sign of Brazils cultural vastness and a reminder of the mistakes of the past.
And add to the history of cultural mixture even more, Vargas has merged Japanese sword fighting styles to martial art, using his Odachi sword in combination with the kicks, flips and acrobatic jumps common to capoeira. It makes for a complicated, but effective, fighting style.
