Artistic freedom watercolor piece of an adorable chow dog with a blue snoot and tongue! With how juicy the blue on this character design is, I wanted to explore it a bit in the accent design. I feel confident enough as a painter now to break out the pthalo blue; a super bright pigment that infects everything in the painting if it bleeds or you accidentally leave some in your brush. I ruined a couple paintings in college trying to use this color. XD

I'm stumbling my way through learning watercolors too, steadily getting a grip on what works and what doesn't. The BEST thing I ever did was to get good paper and good paints. I have Winsor Newton paints right now, but I'm gradually buying up Daniel Smith tubes, thems some stellar pigments! And I started using some heavy duty paper too, got me some pro stuff. I found I liked heavy paper, 300lbs or more. Best brand for me so far is Fabriano. Dunno what sort of brushes you have either, but I'm digging sable rounds for this. They are expensive as all fuck, but worth it when you get them!
xD yeh I'm working with shitty stuff I've had for years and never used (I'm a master of collecting tons of art supplies and using them once :D)
I get so frustrated when my paper starts to come off while I paint, curse those tiny balls of paper! So I think I need tougher paper at some point. I guess its just a lot of experimentation and practise, helps that you've started cos I constantly want to try again whenever you upload these @u@
