“Don’t eat the meat.” The whisper was so quiet, he nearly missed it. The troll glanced sharply over his shoulder to the cage to the right. It was so dark; he thought the cage empty at first. Small fingers passed into his cage holding a chunk of bread, “Here, have mine.”
Distrustful, the troll stared at the offering. The voice spoke poorly in orcish, but the hand looked human. The skin was too dark to be an elf, nearly bronze. The hand and fingers were too long and slender to be a dwarf or gnome. “Why should ah trust you?” he murmurs, voice rough with disuse.
Her face, though heavily shadowed in the poorly lit space, could be seen as she pressed into the bars. He could not see the color of her eyes, though they appeared sunken and her lips were pressed in a thin line. Her hair is dark, but in the dismal light he can tell it was lighter than black. It was heavily tangled and matted around her face and shoulders. She must have been here for some time. She looked half starved. “You saw what your friend over there was like.” She whispered, gesturing to the cage on the opposite side of Kor'alli, to the feral troll, “That is no animal meat. If you want to keep your mind, you would do well to not eat it.”

An excerpt from Kor'alli's story I am writing. I couldn't get the image of the girl out of my head, so I had to draw it. I need to practice doing dark scenes like this more. I am not 100% satisfied with it.
