He's sorta cartoony. I've had people try to get me to do their anime characters realistically, and very often it ends up looking a bit odd.

These are all stylized characters rendered "realistically" or otherwise applied to real life people. Because the source material was so stylized, to literally translate it to realism makes it look bizarre. These are extreme examples, but hopefully they convey what I mean about the difficulty in translating stylized art/proportions to realism.
So the problem I've had in the past is that people really like the stylized look of their character, but want the realism I offer, and sometimes depending on the flexibility of the client, it doesn't always work out.
Another example, this frog character: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15487857/

Notice how in a lot of ways, they don't look like the same character because the realistic one is "too realistic" that it had to take away the iconic cartoony shape of the character's body? This is sort of what I mean.
I'd like to think I'm reasonably skilled at finding a middle ground, but sometimes, depending on the client's preferences, it just doesn't turn out ideally. Just saying that would be my only concern doing that character!

I've done a few "(semi)-realistic stylized" pieces, though - sometimes it's a bit weird, but it can work depending on what you like!

Thank you very much, he's a lovely specimen, I gotta admit :b Yeah, all the gryphon races from vangarthia's world have the thumb claws on their wings, I think!
