Okay, so Gunpei Yokoi may not have designed all these characters himself, but he is more or less reponsible for them existing. One guess as to who the black sheep of this family is...
You might recall me mentioning drawing a Wario that bore a resemblance to Bear Hugger awhile back. This is the one.

To me, Daisy seems to be one of the shallowest characters in the Mario universe, while she acts almost in a 'larger than life', bratty sort of way.
I realise she was the princess to be rescued in one of the very first Mario games, but Peach clearly took the top spot by now so it feels as though she's just there as filler.
Again, it's just my view. :x

Yes, Peach was definitely first, but there wasn't much glamour about them back then. 8 bits weren't really enough to convey much character beyond needing to be saved, being saved and thanking the hero for being saved.
Her sudden disappearance after her debut made it seem like her creator hadn't intended her to be a staple character, kind of like Wart in SMB2, which made it easier for Peach to take the spotlight. But of course she had her comeuppance again in later games.
While I'm here, I admit I could have expressed myself a tad more diplomatically in my first comment, though I always try to have some kind of reasoning to back up my views. ^^;

Her creator was leaving the company soon anyway. He later died. She was only gone for like 5 years. That's not long in terms of video-game characters. Peach was never meant to have a power struggle with Daisy. She never had to reclaim the spotlight because Daisy never stole it from her. I like how people have so much room to judge a character like Daisy when they obviously don't know enough about her to be allowed to give a damn. :P
Poor Gunpei. He was so successful in Nintendo, creating many great games. Then he made the New Coke for videogames at the time: Virtual Boy. Then Nintendo made him the black sheep for the entire company and never recovered. Then he died in a car accident, never regaining his reputation. I salute you Gunpei! Your works still live on!!
