This is a direct copy from a painting by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi depicting a young Saito Musashibo Benkei looking down upon a giant carp in a pool/stream. He is pictured ready to strike in vengeance due to the carp's having devoured his mother.
I did this a while ago as a line/ form practice and only recently went back over it.
Yoshitoshi's way of depicting cloth just blows me away. look up The Fever of Taira no Kiyomori or any of his work for that matter, and you'll see what i mean.
