I've gotten the hang of controlling my pen on a digital canvas. But I can't figure out how to make my lines the shape I want them to be. I am still so used to traditional pens that I can pick for what they do and make them do what I want. But with digital brushes I have no idea how to set them to do what I want.
It's really frustrating.
Yes I've looked at tutorials. No, I still can't wrap my head around it.
I'm feeling really helpless with my digital art. I want to get better but I am just horrible at figuring out programs.

:( I'm sorry it's so frustrating, especially since it's something you want to improve upon. I wanted to come in and say that your work with traditional media is amazing, and there's so few artists around that still use traditional media that it really is something you should be proud of. However I do see how expanding out into different formats helps with people's artistic abilities and skills as a whole. I can't draw worth crap so I don't have much advice on the technical side, but try not to get down on yourself when you practice digital art. Take little steps at a time and just play around with programs with no real goal in mind. It doesn't relate much, but I'm most comfortable shooting wildlife and nature photography. I wanted to broaden my scope though and really wanted to start working on taking portraits of people. It was wonky and awful and the results were ugly as crap for a long time, but after so many months of just fartin' around in the park taking pictures of random people, or messing with my camera when friends were over, I did slowly get to the point where I was able to take some really great photos of human subjects, and they're photos I'm still proud of.
That was really long-winded, sorry... I guess long story short is, be proud of where you started and what you're amazing at, and definitely don't leave that behind, but don't beat yourself up when expanding out to an unknown realm. Give yourself plenty of time and patience.
