This is a song that I put together over the course of a few sessions, when I decided to pick up Ableton Live and that new Push controller they got. I wasn't planning on doing anything, just wanted to do something to learn the workflow, and holy God is it awesome. Just sitting and making music with that Push controller is just creamtastically natural. I was actually scared of how easy shit was flowing.
Anyway, I used it to learn how to not only use the Push controller, but also the Ableton Live software, and also how to use ReWire to use my Reason software in unison with it. Basically, it's a system for linking two complete DAW software packages together so one can be the master and the other the slave, and you get all the features of both. About a third of the sounds in this come from Reason.
I have to say, though...the Live software is pug fugly and is about as intuitive as a sheet of sidewalk. Reason's not only cool looking but seems to work a lot nicer when you gotta dig at it. I have found software to use the Push controller directly with Reason to some extent, and I may even do that more, but...man, the workflow in Live through Push, though, it's so awesome.
Oh, I know a lot of this is only of interest to musicians, but to simplify, "Push" is this grid controller of like 16 buttons by 16 buttons that light up to show status and are touch sensitive, so instead of using like a piano keyboard to play and arrange music, it's all done by dicking with the controller...from playing notes, to setting up patterns, to arranging...you don't even have to look at the computer, it's all there, nearly everything you wanna do or adjust.
Anyway, I kinda think the music I made sounds like Orbital's stuff. It's just standard e-z listening techno trance stuff. And I called it "Tide" just because when I was in the meat of making it, I was on Faibanx MUCK and Denare was shitting out more puns as usual, and one was something about his co-worker re-arranging detergent on the shelf so he "turned the tide". I was actually going to record myself or him saying the pun at the end of the song, but lazy. And don't even say the word "mastering." My idea of mastering is adjusting the volume levels of the instruments and walking away. :) Maybe Someday™. I certainly don't care enough to master this piece, it was just some'n to do, and that "Faster than Furious" song I'm working on prrrrobably isn't worth it either, but who knows. Am I still talking? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
