I used soem photoshop magic then painted over then. If you've got photoshop i can explain it a bit if you'd like. It's super simple.

Well I basically did the base coat coloration then plopped another layer on top of that one. Then i played with the settings of the layer, pretty sure here I used multiply, but "color, overlay, soft light and hard light" some times work just as well, just play with em and se which you like best. Then i put another layer on top of that one and painted in highlights and the fur edges to blend it better.
