I finally got a picture of the deer awhile back, I've only seen the two females, one is a great deal younger than the other, though I'm not sure you can tell here. Theres apparently a buck wandering too, but I've not seen him. They are very skittish and prone to running, so every other picture I've gotten of them was all blurry because they were fleeing. As you can see here they only just noticed me, moments before they took off, heheh. Clearly I am terrifying. ; }

A word on petting wild deer. This is a bad idea, let me enplane why. In deer society placing your front hoof (or your hand) on the back of another deer is a sigh of aggression. The deer will react in basically one of two ways, either it will run away, no real problem there, or it will turn, and rear up on its hind legs and give the offender a sound thrashing with its very sharp, very hard, front hooves, which can cause serious injury, and this is what very often happens. If you really would like to pet a deer find a petting zoo or game ranch that will let you interact with the animals. These deer are 'tamed' (I use this word lightly) and are use to being touched by people and realize that we are not trying to be aggressive. They really are very sweet and affectionate when they are use to human contact. And the next time your State government starts spewing some mindless crap about the evil game ranches call them up and tell them where to stick it.

I agree completely, being close to these animals is very fulfilling, and brings much joy. If I sounded overbearing I didnt mean to, I just have a knee-jerk reaction when people start talking about petting wild deer, it just ends badly so very often. Canada has deer ranches too, and actually some of their laws are not so ridicules as they are here in the states.
