Simple Guide to drawing my sona <3
"Uh oh, here she goes on one of her weird tangents. BRACE YOURSELVES"
Plus, a few of you have told me I should do one of these things cause it'd be helpful n stuff so HERE YOU GO. LETS HOPE IT'S USEFUL.
As I go on in the furry world, a few specific things keep popping up as apparently difficult things when drawing my fursona. Through the years there have been many difficulties, but these three have been around for as long as I can remember, and they continue to be confusing to some people so I've decided to make a kind of guide.
No, this isn't meant to point people out and be like "YOU SUCK.". It's meant to be a helper whenever faced with my character.
As we all know, I'm one of the most picky people to deal with in regards to commissions. I strongly caution people who want to draw me fanart/giftart solely because I know that even though it's on their spare time, they need to be warned that if even one thing is out of place, I'm going to be extraordinarily unhappy and that's just not fair to them.
These three things are ordered in what bothers me from the least to what bothers me the most. * the blue = least, red = most*
To basically put it down to the point in case you can't read my writing (I can barely read my writing)
Guide #1 -- Her different Coats
This isnt' even that difficult and yet people constantly mess this up. If it's springtime, summertime or autumn, she will be in her normal coat. If it's winter, guess what? She's in her winter coat. DO NOT draw her or upload pictures of her in her winter coat when it's spring/summer fall and DO NOT upload pictures of her in her spring/summer/fall coat when it's winter. BIG NO NO. B(
The only issue is "what does she change into her winter coat?" because that's the only thing that doesnt go on the date that the calender decides it's a different season. She changes into her winter coat when it first snows for me. Generally, I will upload something THAT. DAY. when it does happen. so. Still pretty easy.
Guide #2. Her Figure/ Body type
Chiima's figure is exactly my own and I know that people here on FA are all about dat booty and all about dem boobies but guess what? I'm not physically about ALL DAT JUNK. Legit. I'm tiny okay? Don't draw my baby with giant child birthing hips and big bouncy boobs that get all up in her business. That's so wrong. I personally love the bigger figure and busty shit and all that but unfortunately for me, that's just not how I was built. I am 5'4'' and I am 107 lbs. I'm skinny as fuck, my boobs are size 34B and I don't have a shitton of JUNK IN MY TRUNK. I'm essentially a perfectly small hourglass. Please respect my body type and keep it that way.
Guide #3 aND THE MOST IMPORTANT DON'T MESS THIS UP PLEASE. Her goddamned Ears.
There are many things that can bother me when someone draws chiima wrong, but the thing that just tops it all. Is when people draw her ears too small. I make it a point to put in CAPS LETTERS multiple times on my refs (we're talking like... potentially 3 different times) that her ears aRE HUGE GIGANTIC ASS FENNEC FOX EARS. And yet, that still doesn't get across a lot of the time. I still constantly get art of her with these tiny little wolf or cat ears and it just WRINKLES MY SPRINKLES to no end. How many times to I have to say that her ears are HUGE? Her ears are legitimately her identifier. One of the most common comments i get on art of her that I draw is something along the lines of "omg those ears <3 <3 <3". If your art is not evoking the same kind of a reaction, you are doing it wrong.
to make it plainly clear on how to do her ears correctly, here's what you do. Measure them. Are they 2x the length of her head? No? NOT BIG ENOUGH. Look at a fennec fox. How big are their ears compared to their faces? They're fucking huge. Chiima's are bigger. They're her identifier; Giant ass globe ears on top of a little cute face. That's how you do it. If you're looking at your drawing like "these ears look really disproportionate. They're too big" then IT'S PROBABLY PERFECT.
Honestly. Your "too big" is probably my "just barely big enough".
Again, this isn't to be rude or to cop anyone out. This is just a guide to look at so I will really be able to appreciate the work you do for me that much more provided you get all the markings correct ;) . These are just common mistakes that bother me that I feel I should get out there so people will be better equipped to draw my Baby, be it a commission, or gift art or an art trade <3

And people always get my ears wrong too. My ears are huge but for some reason people think Oh she's a puma so imma draw them small. NO NO NO NO.

yeah, there are two seperate references for both of them that I swap out as my "featured submission" whenever it changes.
Right now the submission is in her spring coat though and it's advertising the reference sheet raffle cause the raffle is a spring thing and-- /shot
but yeah, in my gallery, they'll be titled something along the lines of "Chiima winter coat reference" lol or there will be the lack of the word "Winter' for her not winter ref :P

i love this forever. xD i have still given up hope that anyone will ever draw my fennec characters right. xD let alone the new complicated spots of my snow leopard half breed. but you are awesome. thanks for this. xD i'm suprised you didn't mention the line from the nose to eye to ear thing. but i guess that part is pretty clear xD
I'm going to have so many problems if i try to get art of my Snow Leopard / Fennec. Her spot markings and eyebrows are a pain. xD i even made this to help xD http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15781229/ and i'm crazy because i might even add wings to her. :| but not sure to do the half purple half pink thing... or keep the wings all white and blue... or just all white to be easy. xD
YEah, I have a tiger character http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15760169/ and I've decided that she's going to be my character with whom I learn to be more lenient with stuff. Like, there's no way people are going to get her stripes all in the right place. The only thing I want to be exact realy is her face and a few specified stripes that I mark on her ref sheet :P Otherwise, I basically just tell people to do their best haha
i really need to make one of these xD that way it is clear when i commission artists. xD but then again, even when i say something its still usually too small. I really hope i drew her alright for you. x.x i would love to draw you and your tiger character sometimes too. :) i lover her markings.
I almost made a fennec fox sona but the big ear thing stopped me xD Wish I went ahead with it, but I was thinking it would drive me nuts if I made a reff of my fen fox and had BIG EARS written down but people would draw him with small ears. Especially tails, I have that issue where some people draw Leifs tail too big. Like no she has a tiny fluffy corgi tail xD so I know the feels omg
