Cute little story. And I see somebody else figured a bus stop could be a shelter. The dialects that the characters used were most interesting, as a non-native speaker of English I find myself amused by different dialects. In this case it seemed the way the characters talked defined part of their personality. Quite merry old chap, that red-furred raccoon. Great short story, I enjoyed reading this.
I actually JUST finished reading your story. Seems with both came to a similar concept independently... but how many times have people sought shelter from sudden downpours at bus stops? As the saying goes, "Any port in a storm,"
Anyway, I try to add things to my character... and for the life of me, I couldn't think of any other way to portray a jolly, happy soul such as the red raccoon as using a sorta Southern area dialect. There's somethin' about that accent that can seem, well, right friendly-like.
Thanks for reading, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
