Sorry for the re-upload, but the other one before wasn't working for some reason...Anywho....
Ima call this 80's cause this is just that. Work in progress of a song for my uncle, the bass is only DI right now, no Amp sim, and the playing is a little off in some places, but I'll fix it up later, so never you mind hehe.
So back about May, my aunt basically commished me and my band to write a song for/about my uncle, who has lung cancer. Something reflective upon his life and family, and she wanted kind of an upbeat ballad type song.
So for a while I kicked this idea around, wrote it out, it didn't jive with me, so I went off in some other directions for a while, but nothing really stuck. Then about 2 weeks ago I came back to it, and played some bass to it. I got a good groove going withe the bassline, with some substitute bass notes in there and it got me going on the idea again.
I penned it all out in full arrangement, and did a little bit of guitar on it, but wasn't pleased with too much of it. I kept what little is in here right now, and have to find something else to add to it in the verse and chorus. The solo is also not done yet, but that will come soon enough.
It doesn't have anyone else from my band in it yet, but it will once I get some lyrics going, maybe even get Ian to do some guitar in here.
So...I don't usually post works in progress, cept for that montage a while back of my album stuff, but it's mostly there, so I figured, what the hell.

This is realllllly awesome, it captures the 80s thing perfect, it's like some Cure song. You should leave the bass as it is, as many great albums were just that: DI right into the board for the bass. like Bruce Cockburn's Lovers In A Dangerous Time. You might want to bring it down in the mix a tiny tiny bit is all. Just a smidge. Just great!
You know what, I've been listening to this song a bit more and I was thinking that the bass wouldn't suffer from the tiniest bit of reverb and chorus, just the smallest almost transparent bit, to help it fit in with the overall soundscape. And I'm a guy who hates putting effects on bass so there ya go.
Ya, I usually shy away from bass effects aswell unless I'm going for some crazy, whack-ass sounds from it. I'll give'r a try, see what some verb and a splash of chorus does. Thanks for the ideas, I was really looking for some critisism on this piece considering it's importance. Thanks dude.
