Personally, I dislike FSoG for reasons other than it being over-rated, but I'm not gonna get into a huge discussion over it XD
I, at least, did read the books (I forced myself to slog through them, ugh). I did the same with the Twilight series. Hated them, but forced myself to read them anyway.

As I said in the description, as an ACTUAL BDSM Domme, that franchise pisses me the fuck off.
It'd be one thing if, when the book was published, there was some kind of disclaimer going "Hey, this is an atypical BDSM relationship" (actually it's an abusive relationship and Christian Gray is a sociopath, but it'd still be a start). It's also the fact that it means that SO MANY NEW PEOPLE have joined the BDSM community (which is great! The more the merrier- except for the fact that all of their "knowledge" basically comes from that trash of a book).

That's fair enough! I don't have any real experience either way, while I maintain an interest in the community, so I'm not going to comment on HOW it's bad, lest I look like an idiot. ^.^ But safe to say I'm not going to really take anything from the franchise as educational in the least.

Honestly, I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with people who are wanting to learn and educate themselves about the lifestyle. None at all. I'm always more than happy to chat about it and give input that I've gained from my own relationship(s) and experiences.
However, I do get irritated when people watch/read something (like... FSoG or any "mainstream" BDSM porn) and then take that as fact. Generally speaking, FSoG is WAY off, and most "BDSM" porn isn't 100% accurate either. It's best to do a lot of different research and take all findings worth a grain of salt because a)different BDSM relationships have different dynamics and b)some sources are just... wrong in general.
