And things like this, ladies and gentlemen, are why many people exploring unknown planets wear crysisesque armored suits in my universe. Of course, fat lot of good it does in storage when the Synx is slurking about your house. Eh, win some, lose some. Of course then you can still always try to bludgeon it to death with a lamp, which will going to lead to an ignoble end for one or the other...
chimerasynx has made it clear it's not that hard to kill them in most cases (though I don't know whether weeper mode entails some kind of metamorphosis (I use the term loosely) where their muscles begin to harden and become much more resistant to deathblows raining down on them), They've just got some major advantages over other species as far as urban stealth.
Ah this actually explains a lot. This is a classic-movie tier monster, on par with the first aliens or "the thing". However of course the next movie would totally kill the vibe, and suddenly there would be a bunch of space Marines facing off against hordes of them and the Synx queen who is like 2 stories taller than it should be with no exoskeleton to hold them up lol (though I guess if you went George Lucas on the whole thing that wouldn't happen)
In the linked image they just kind of fold back, and that's pretty normal when they do this. Other images will later get into this, but: their horns are very movable and much lighter then they appear (you could probably even break them bare handed if you used all your strength).
The capability of the synx truly astounded me when I first read them. Now that I am learning more, I'm becoming more fascinated by them. I now adore their ability to turn into a serpent like being, and said position is more comfortable to them.
Not only that, they're downright adorable. I love that they prefer to pivot their head on such a way.
If only they can be domesticated and kept as pets...

A bit more then that, actually. XD
When standing like a person their tail is usually touching the ground a lot, that's because they are actually standing on their tail (not their legs) and they are using their legs to just prop themselves upward and balance themselves. It's like a person laying on the ground but raising their body up and keeping it in that awkward position using their arms (a stationary push-up). That's what "standing" is to a synx.
Most synx cannot actually walk either, and usually just make it appear like they are by slithering froward on their tail and emulating the movement of walking with their legs the whole way. The most fit and athletic synx can walk like real people (with tail off the ground), but when they achieve it, it is still awkward and incredibly strenuous, like a human walking on their hands. They obviously can't do it for very long, either.

That's how their head naturally evolved; particularly because it wasn't ever really meant to be a head at the start. Before they were the white wonder weasels they're known as today, synxes once looked a lot more like what you would expect a wormy parasite to look. In that state, they didn't have heads, they had grabbing hook-like things coming out of a hole. That eventually became their head, and it is also why their jaws are very hand-like as well. At one point in their evolution, their proto-heads probably looked like gross fleshy hands with eyes on the sides.
