The so-called Heroes of Rio de Janeiro are a fanatical, paramilitary group led by former member of local military.
They support the principle that any actions against the Reptilians are totally justified, including terrorist activities such as sabotage and even suicide bombings.
With the intent to establish the thought of viewing mission and homeland above self, they are conditioned to be fanatically devoted and, therefore, prepared to forfeit their lives in order to accomplish their assigned missions.
They attack with a variety of military rifles, machineguns and grenade launchers (not to mention rocket launchers), as well as machetes, ninja-to, uchigatana, katana, yanmaodao, liuyedao, miaodao and, occasionally, niuweidao.
Furthermore, they are all equipped with cybernetic exoskeletons (Combat Suits) conceived to fight the monsters ‘on equal terms’. Also and not surprisingly, their cybernetic exoskeletons are equipped with powerful explosive charges, which are intended to be used as self-destruct devices; once activated, the self-destruct device takes a few seconds to charge, and it begins a relatively short countdown (indicated on the display); such devices are built into the Combat Suits themselves, being activated Predator-style.
They are first seen during Lenin’s saga.
As the albino Komodo dragon is visiting the former borough of Realengo (located in the district of Bangunza), a large team of these fanatics attack him, ending up butchered by the Murderous Warrior. Subsequently, many others hurl themselves against the giant lizard, only to end up butchered by the enormous reptile.
They are the most common enemies in the first “Reptilia Squad Gaiden”, being led by Maxim (the main antagonist and last boss of the game) during Lenin’s quest.
