no, he actually was human, and became an orangutang after a magic accident. Ever since then, all his yearbook pages hae disappeared (leaving only a vague aroma of banana's), everyone who knew hs true name (which is needed to turn him back) has developed acute amnesia from being hit on the head if they tried to "help" him out. He likes it better this way
(also, since he's the librarian in a magic library, which has books that can make a strong man's brains dribble out of his nose if he read a single sentence, it helps a lot not being human. He could probably eat the book and have no side effects)
