So, Back in the day, I use to do a bit of Hall Costuming (long before it was ever called Cosplay). It's actually something I miss, along with a lot of other things. There's been a lot of roadblocks in the way.
1) Time - I haz none!
2) Skill - my sewing skills are mediocre at best. I can put buttons on and sew a straight edge but draping and complex forms? Bwahahaha!
3) Trying to find characters/ideas that I'd actually look decent as is... challenging. After all, I am neither young (anymore), nor physically fit (to seemingly inhuman standards). Oh, lets be honest here, I am over the hill by fandom standards as well as hefting a mighty spare tire.
But about a year ago, I came up with this idea. A Japanese summer festival Twilight Sparkle yukata. Mask would be pre-bought (already have) - but everything else (except for maybe the gettas) would be hand made. As far as things go, a yukata *should* be relatively simple to sew up. Obi's are pretty straight forward as well, though mine would be a little more difficult since the thinner one's ends splay out into faux-wings. And the Obi-decoration would have to be sculpted as well. The Tobi socks would be the most difficult since I would have to build in my supports and rises, lest I'd never be able to walk around.
But the lack of time means this will probably not happen.
Still, it was nice to think of something that is possible for me.

Might not be as impossible as you think. My business is looking into making a full line of Japanese clothing starting this year (as soon as the weather is nicer and we can get everyone together) We've already been looking at MLP inspired designs as well so I would be happy to show this to my partners and see about getting this made for you.
