I have an interesting Bowling for Soup story. About five years ago, they were invited to be the Guests of Honor at a convention in its first year called Sonicon in Plano. They were given a free room, the hotel bill paid completely, even a stipend to buy some food and cool stuff at the con. Lo and behold, at the last minute they choose not to come because there was a paying gig somewhere else. So we never have a second year of Sonicon because they decided not to show up.
Yes, I was just looking over the program and realized how much I wanted Sonicon to be an annual, rather than one-time event. But in a way, it did. We now have plenty of video game events throughout the year that are far more geared towards all kinds of gamers, not just the dwindling fans of Sonic. Maybe 2010 was just a more innocent time or maybe I liked the hotel's reading room which more or less resembled the main room of a Texas hunting lodge.
