Finally found this.
This is actually one of the nicest story illo pics I did for Brock Hoagland back in the day.
"Woluar" was what he called a family cross- A wolf mixed with a jaguar.
In the Hanno and LOris universe, such crosses exist only through the use of magic, and are rare and often feared as unnatural.
He was a bit hard to draw, but I managed to make it work.
The armor and weapons description Brock gave me made me think of the Normans during the conquest of England, so that was my inspiration for the knee length maille hauberk, pointed top spangenhelm, cross gartered maille chausses and round topped kite shield.
Woluar turned out to be a one shot character, sadly.
But the illo turned out nice.

Well....
I'm a historian and former re-enactor, and SCA fighter.
So my fantasy armor is usually realistic, because I make and wear the real thing.
Its really more of a habit than a concious decision...But my normal impulse is to draw real armor, modified to fantasy requirements.
